Hypnotherapy is a gentle but powerful tool for addressing a wide range of emotional, behavioural, and wellbeing-related concerns. By working with the deeper part of the mind, it helps to shift patterns that may feel otherwise difficult to change.
It is a collaborative, personalised approach, focused on helping you make positive, lasting change.

What I enjoy most about being a hypnotherapist is the opportunity to help people create meaningful change in their lives. Guiding someone into a deeply relaxed state and helping them access their own inner resources is truly rewarding, and I value the trust clients place in me and the chance to support them in overcoming challenges, building confidence, and gaining clarity. Each session is unique, and being part of someone’s personal transformation—often in ways they didn’t think were possible—is what makes this work so fulfilling.
As an expat from the US who has lived in the UK for over 30 years, and with over 25 years of experience of working with university students in international higher education, I bring a depth of understanding, cultural awareness, and strong communication skills to my practice. I have developed a nuanced, cross-cultural perspective and an ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds, both young and old. This experience enriches my work as a hypnotherapist, allowing me to support clients with empathy, insight, and a multi-cultural outlook.

Hypnotherapy is a gentle therapeutic approach that can be applied to a wide-range of issues, using guided relaxation and focused attention to help individuals access a calm state of awareness. In this relaxed state the natural chatter of the conscious mind can quieten and drift, allowing more direct access to the unconscious mind, where patterns of thought, behaviour, and belief are held.
Then, through the use of various therapeutic techniques and positive suggestions, the therapist can assist the client in creatively implementing desired changes to patterns of thought, feelings and behaviours at a deeper level.
Yes, virtually anyone can be hypnotized as long as they're willing to be hypnotized and use their imagination, are open to the process can follow basic instructions.
No, not at all. Contrary to common misconceptions, hypnotherapy clients remain aware and in control throughout the process, working collaboratively with the hypnotherapist to create meaningful, positive, and lasting change. It is not possible for any hypnotist to control a subject or to make them do, say or believe anything they wouldn’t wish to.
Hypnotherapy can be effective in supporting a wide range of emotional, behavioural, and psychological issues. It works by helping to address underlying patterns held in the deeper mind, making it particularly useful for:
Emotional wellbeing
Habits and behaviours
Confidence and performance
Sleep and relaxation
Personal development
Physical and mind-body support
It’s important to note that hypnotherapy is a complementary approach and works best when tailored to the individual. It can be used alongside other forms of support and is focused on empowering clients to create positive, lasting change.
Before we begin any treatment sessions, we will start with a roughly 20-minute free consultation on the telephone or video call where we can discuss the basics of the issue you’re looking to address, and if I do not think I can help you I will let you know and, if I can, refer you to someone who might be able to.
If we agree to work together following that initial call, the first session usually takes 60-90 minutes, which allows time for a more in-depth discussion to let me learn more about you and the problem you wish to address, as well as for me to explain a bit more about the process. Subsquent sessions will last up to approximately 60 minutes each.
We will keep our focus on the present and maintain a soultion-focused, problem-solving approach, rather than engaging in a prolonged analysis or exploration of the past. The therapy will always have a well defined goal with the aim of addressing the issue as quickly and as firmly as we can.
Following our initial discussion in the first session, we will then try some warm up exercises to engage your imagination and ease you into the practise of the therapeutic trance before going further into some techniques that will be geared towards your presenting issue.
Sometimes I seem to be able to help people when nothing else seems to be working, and sometimes significant changes occur in our first session together.
While significant improvement is often felt from the first session, it usually takes several sessions to sufficiently address most issues, and we will look to determine the precise number of sessions on a case-by-case basis. So while it is not possible to give one general answer, I would say it is likely to be from 2-4 sessions for most cases.
Again, our work together will be strongly goal-oriented, with the aim of achieving the desired result in a time-limited fashion.
Yes, I will often share MP3 recordings of the hypnosis portion of our sessions together, and these can be great tools for solidifying the work we've done. It can also have the effect of providing calm relaxation at bedtime.
For most people, hypnotherapy is a pleasant, gentle, and extremely safe experience.
However, your safety is my number one concern and there are occasions where hypnosis would be contraindicated, meaning that there may be some level of risk.
If you have any medical condition, please ask your doctor to give their approval before
confirming your booking with me.
I will be unable to work with you if you have a diagnosis of the following:
I may be able to work with you if you have epilepsy, narcolepsy, depression, asthma, or a heart condition, but will require your doctor’s approval before we can work together.
Confidentiality is within our relationship and within my relationship with my supervisor (your personal details i.e. your name and address are not discussed in supervision). I will discuss any breach of this confidentiality with you in the first instance, except terrorist action or unless I believe you are in danger to yourself or others and unable to negotiate with me.
If I see you somewhere outside of our sessions, to ensure your confidentiality, I will not
approach you or act as if I know you. However, if you acknowledge me then I will
acknowledge you.
Although the therapeutic relationship is friendly, it is not the same as a friendship, so in order to maintain our therapeutic space as the confidential and safe experience that you deserve, I avoid any kind of dual relationship with current and former clients.
I may keep short digital notes from our sessions. Should notes be made, they are kept
confidential and are stored in a safe, secure place.
